What is Dog TPLO Surgery?

We partner with a board-certified orthopedic surgeon to perform various orthopedic surgeries so our patients can live active, pain-free lives again. Dog TPLO surgery is one such treatment option that has helped many canines regain their mobility and avoid further injury and it can help your pet, too.

TPLO stands for tibial plateau leveling osteotomy. This procedure was developed to treat torn cranial cruciate ligaments (CCL) in dogs. A torn CCL causes the knee joint to become unstable and painful, and prone to further (and more debilitating) injury. To correct this problem, the surgeon removes a wedge of bone from the tibia. Then, they rotate this wedge to the appropriate angle and anchor it in place with plates and screws. This new position makes the knee joint more stable, preventing over-extension and rotation. More importantly, the TPLO surgery alleviates joint pain and allows the patient to bear weight on the affected limb again.

Platelet-Rich Plasma Therapy

Platelet-rich plasma therapy is a relatively new treatment that, as you might guess, uses your pet’s plasma to heal various injuries, including ligament tears, tendon injuries, and osteoarthritis. The growth factors and signaling molecules within the plasma enhance tissue healing and pain relief and shorten your pet’s recovery time.

Because PRP is minimally invasive, it can be done on an outpatient basis. The treatment is very safe, especially since it involves using your pet’s own blood plasma, which is processed and then carefully injected into the joint or other area requiring treatment. PRP has proven to be highly effective in treating humans and horses, and we’re excited to bring this innovative therapy to your pet!

Librela for Pain Relief

Librela is a new pain control treatment we offer that helps dogs feel better by easing the chronic discomfort of osteoarthritis. It works by blocking a protein that sends pain signals, reducing pain and inflammation. This means your dog can move around more comfortably and enjoy life with less pain. Librela offers lasting relief with fewer side effects than other pain medications, making it a gentle and effective way to keep your dog feeling their best.
