When Would My Pet Need Urgent Care?
Urgent medical issues are a little different from pet emergencies. While emergencies have the potential to be life-threatening, urgent situations are less traumatic but still require timely treatment. Situations that fall into the urgent care category include:
- Allergies (sneezing, swelling)
- Coughing
- Acute onset diarrhea or vomiting
- Parasites (worms, ticks, fleas, etc.)
- Limping
- Ear infections
- Runny eyes/nose
- Minor wounds
Signs of An Emergency
Whenever your pet experiences a change in their behavior or their health, it’s important to make time to see your veterinarian. However, some symptoms are more urgent to address than others. If your pet experiences any of the situations below, bring them to us immediately, or to our 24/7 referral emergency hospital.
- Ingestion of a known toxin
- Traumatic injury (i.e. hit by a car)
- Encounter with a wild animal
- Excessive vomiting/diarrhea
- Blood in vomit, stool, or urine
- Bleeding from the mouth, nose, eyes, or ears
- Sudden collapse or unconsciousness
- Seizures
- Disorientation or confusion
- Pressing head against a wall or other surface
