What to Expect During a Cat or Dog Exam

With every wellness exam, we tailor the experience to suit your pet’s unique needs. Puppies and kittens, for instance, have vastly different needs than a senior pet. Your pet’s wellness exam will include:

  • Complete physical (including eyes, ears, mouth, heart, lungs, and more)
  • Vaccination administration (based on your pet’s personalized vaccine protocol)
  • Fecal exam (if due)
  • Heartworm test (for dogs)
  • Age-appropriate blood tests (CBCs, chemistry profiles, etc.)
  • Discussion of ongoing flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
  • Discussion your pet’s diet and nutrition

Flea, Tick, and Heartworm Prevention

In Schertz and the greater San Antonio area, fleas, ticks, and heartworms are an especially big problem for our pets. These parasites not only make our pets ill, but fleas and ticks can affect our human families, too. That’s why we put such a strong emphasis on consistent flea, tick, and heartworm prevention in each individual pet wellness care plan. Yet, we understand it can be difficult for busy pet owners to administer monthly preventatives which is why we offer a variety of options.

For Heartworm

As an alternative to a heartworm pill, we recommend ProHeart for heartworm prevention in dogs. ProHeart is an injectable preventative that protects your dog from heartworm disease for either 6 or 12 months (depending on the dose given). Cats also need protection, so talk to us about your cat’s options, too.

For Fleas & Ticks

While most flea and tick preventatives require monthly administration, some, such as Bravecto for cats and dogs, allow you to go 3 months between administrations. Talk to us about your pet’s flea, tick, and heartworm prevention options at your next appointment!
